FAQs
Do your services qualify for reimbursement through my insurance?
Many insurance and extended health benefit plans offer full or partial coverage for the services of a Registered Psychotherapist. This depends on your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan may compensate you for Psychotherapy services.
On the day of your session, I will collect your payment and you will then be provided with a receipt to be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.
What is online therapy and does it really work?
Online therapy is professional, evidence-based counselling that is effective, practical and client-centered. And yes, it works! Sessions are provided online via Zoom which provides a secure end-to-end encrypted platform ensuring your privacy and confidentiality are maintained in every session.
It will be important for you to have space which provides you access to privacy during your session, and a laptop or computer with a strong internet connection. Ear buds or headphones with a microphone are also recommended.
How long will it take?
There are many factors that influence the length of therapy. The frequency and duration of counselling will vary between individuals as the process of self-awareness, problem solving, and change often takes time to achieve. Therefore, I am unable to provide a timeline that will apply to everyone. Session by session, we will monitor progress together and I will do my best to provide a realistic estimate for the course of therapy.
How do I prepare for my first therapy session? How does this work?
You may feel a bit nervous about counselling, but I am fully committed to making your experience as easy and stress-free as possible. Therefore, there is no need to prepare anything specific prior to your initial appointment. However, it can be helpful to think about what you might want to talk about or areas you would like to focus on in your sessions. If you have goals for improvement (in your relationships, work, school, or self-esteem for example), these are great points to highlight as well as any obstacles or barriers you know of that are making things difficult for you.
During our work together, I will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to use them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy so I will tailor my interventions to reflect and align with your values, goals, and your specific needs.
What is the difference between individual therapy and family therapy?
Individual therapy focuses solely on you, your internal processes, issues, and mental health and wellness. It is very personal and inward-focused. Family therapy involves more than one individual working together to identify challenges that are impacting each family member, and together building strategies to resolve issues in a safe and mediated space. The goal of family therapy is to improve the quality of relationships within a family by understanding one another better and acknowledging all perspectives.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation, commitment, self-reflection, and honesty with regards to your thoughts, feelings, and experiences will be very helpful and crucial to your success. Most importantly, go easy on yourself, be patient, and remember that I am here to support you through the process.
